I am bringing the Tardis and my American Girl Dolls together as an Amelia Pond Backpack just in time for the dress-up season!!
Fall heralds the return of a much loved BBC TV series about The Doctor – Dr. Who. As a long time fan of the series I often toss around words like Whovians, Dalek and Electric Screwdriver. So I knew just what to do when I saw the new pattern from Appletotes & Co. on Craftsy for the London Calling Backpack for 18″ American Girl dolls.
Just add a jacket, bow-tie, and red fez and you are well on your way to making an outfit even the eleventh Doctor would be proud of. So how would you take it up a notch?? How about making the Doctor’s Electric Screwdriver out of baking clay?? Geronimo!! Amy has it all plus a great backpack to store it in.
The pattern went together easily and was fun to transform into a time traveling, flying blue box. The backpack is the perfect size for doll play (although obviously much bigger on the inside as we all know). I added white vinyl for the windows and some extra stitching to replicate the window panes. The original pattern has all clear windows but I backed these with more blue vinyl to bring to the look together.
So whether you are a companion, a Time Lord or Lady, I know you’ll enjoy this little gem. Just remember to add the words Police Box and you will be all set for adventure.
Because there are fixed points throughout time where things must stay exactly the way they are. This is not one of them, this is an opportunity. Whatever happens here will create its own timeline, its own reality, a temporal tipping point. The future revolves around you, here, now, so do good!
